All of the speculating and guessing can now be silenced because Tiger Woods will make is his 2009 debut at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Tucson, Arizona. His announcement was made public on his official website last Thursday, the 19th of February 2009, during the late afternoon hours.
Tiger’s official return has already created a buzz throughout the media and PGA Tour. Ticket sales have begun to jump for the PGA Tour’s upcoming events, especially next week’s tournament hosting Tiger’s inaugural return. Tiger made it clear in the past that he was not going to make his return until he felt 100% confident with his golf swing. The timing seems to be perfect however, due to the birth of his new son and the well-deserved rest for his knee.
Speculation regarding his return was always the topic of choice when the sport of golf was mentioned. Some critics even went as far as saying that without Tiger’s presence on the course, players had it easy. Nike, a major sponsor of Tiger Woods, has produced a humorous T.V. campaign centered on his return and the reactions of other PGA Tour members. After watching it, you may get the feeling that Tiger knew exactly when he was planning his come back. After all, it does take a little time to produce a television commercial.
